We praise God for using Grant R. Carter (a Missionary) to start this church which was chartered, June 5, 1977 and incorporated July 14, 1977. These services were held at Independent Baptist Church in Clinton, Maryland. The officials of the church signing as trustees were: Robert Briscoe, Curtis Latimore, John Rollins and Bernard Thompson.
The first services were held in the home of Bernard and Gloria Thompson and later services were, at Clinton Grove Elementary School. Bible Study was held in the home of members (Latimore, Rollins, Willis) through the week. On June 25, 1978, Curtis Latimore and David Roane were ordained and appointed as Assistant Pastors. In September 1978, Dr. John Rollins became the first Deacon and the first Superintendent of the Sunday School.
Assistant Pastor Curtis Latimore was voted unanimously on June 1, 1980 to become the second Pastor after the resignation of Pastor G. Carter, the first Interim Pastor. During this time Antioch received its second Deacon, Jerry Willis and its second Sunday School Superintendent, Robert Glover. In the Fall of 1981 Bobby Cato, Sr. became a Trustee and the third Superintendent of Sunday School. Musical selections were mostly provided by the Youth Choir. Some of the members were: Yvette, Monica, and Renee Latimore; Rita Willis; Lisa and Eric Rollins; Delbert and David Jones; Traci and Miko Brown; Donald Floyd; Annette Simmons; and Wilbur Lawrence. Many Sermonic solos were sung by First Lady Latimore and Deacon John Rollins.
Under the inspiration of God and the leadership of Pastor Latimore on August 16, 1981, the church purchased a house and five acres of land at our present site. Prior to the purchase, the church family prayed and fasted for several days to seek God's guidance in making a decision to step out on FAITH. Eight families moved from Clinton Grove to our current site: Simms, Rollins, Latimore, Willis, Cato, Clowe, Rogers and Tyler. Deacons that were ordained at this location were Cato, Noel and Willis, with later ordinations held for Carter, Reeves and Brooks. The Burning of the Mortgage was incorporated in our ninth anniversary celebration in 1986 with the dream of paying off the land and becoming a reality within five years from the settlement date.
The Construction of our new sanctuary amidst many obstacles (a second mortgage, a fire and a new contractor) increased our faith for we know that it was built truly by the Lord. Historically, we wandered back to utilizing a county school for worship services and members' homes for Bible Study. The first worship service was held in our new sanctuary on April 29, 1989.
Our second mortgage was paid off in the year of our 20th anniversary. During the year of our 24th anniversary plans were submitted to the county for a paved parking lot and a multipurpose building. How distant seems our beginning as we look to the far horizon's beckoning span knowing that if we maintain our faith and stand that we will have a part in God's great plan. We know the joy of the Lord is our strength and thank Him for the completion of our Multipurpose Building Project in Dec 2006.
